National NAMIC President Gives Statement on Current Affairs: History Was Made

Statement from A. Shuanise Washington- November 9, 2020

History was made on Saturday with the election of the first woman, first African American and first South Asian American as vice president-elect of the United States.

While Kamala Harris stands on the shoulders of giants like Shirley Chisholm, Charlotta Bass, and many others who empowered women of color and showed them what is possible, her win represents a win for all women.

Diversity at the highest levels of the government is critical for our democracy. It enables us to shape stronger, more effective policies that represent the views and needs of our diverse nation. And, in the end, Americans are better for it.

We at NAMIC celebrate diversity and inclusion throughout government and in all aspects of industry. Together we can foster race and gender equality for all, and build a society that is more inclusive and equitable for future generations.

We’re on a mission to educate, advocate and empower for multi-ethnic diversity in the communications industry
